Local residents were worried about the premises becoming more and more derelict, with signs of people having broken in. Since then security fencing has been erected and cameras installed.
A few bits of information. First, Tesco took out a 20-year lease with the then owners Punch Taverns in May 2013. The rent is £41,000….. month and Tesco have been paying this ever since.
According to the West Hunsbury Parish Council, there is a restrictive covenant in the lease that says it has to be a pub. Now another company has acquired the freehold from Punch Taverns. According to the parish council, the owner of The Hill Shop is a director of the property company that has acquired the freehold.
