THE DERELICT IRONSTONE PUB – update on developments.

The Ironstone – what next for this site?
PEOPLE IN WEST HUNSBURY have been asking what’s happening to the former Ironstone pub.
Local residents were worried about the premises becoming more and more derelict, with signs of people having broken in. Since then security fencing has been erected and cameras installed.
A few bits of information. First, Tesco took out a 20-year lease with the then owners Punch Taverns in May 2013. The rent is £41,000….. month and Tesco have been paying this ever since.
According to the West Hunsbury Parish Council, there is a restrictive covenant in the lease that says it has to be a pub. Now another company has acquired the freehold from Punch Taverns. According to the parish council, the owner of The Hill Shop is a director of the property company that has acquired the freehold.
