BETTER service costing less. That’s what your Lib Dem Borough council has achieved.

Because of Government cuts, the council had to find a way to collect waste and recycling, and to keep the town clean, more cheaply than ever before.

It has taken two years of hard work, but a deal has been done.

Early this summer, a private company will be taking over this work, and they will be improving the service while costing less than the council’s own service. Jobs will not be lost, as the existing council staff will be transferred over to the new company.

Best of all, as part of the new service, fortnightly brown bin collections will be restored in West Hunsbury. This is something that many keen gardeners will welcome, especially coming as it does just as gardening activity increases with the warmer weather.

As far as other waste is concerned, paper, plastic, glass and cans will all be collected weekly.

This new service will save taxpayers £1.7M per year, reduce costly landfill and cut the town’s carbon dioxide emissions.
